Wat was het hier rustig hè, de afgelopen tijd, vooral wat mijn eigen handwerk betreft? Ik ben bewust wat minder tijd achter de computer gaan zitten en meer achter mijn naaimachientje. Dat levert langzamerhand resultaat op, er zijn al een paar tops en quilts die al een tijdje lagen (bijna) af. Dus ik ga het nog even volhouden en hoop zo wat dozen te kunnen legen. Natuurlijk heb ik inmiddels ook wat te laten zien!
Wasn't it very quiet on this blog, especially according to things I am making myself? I have decided to take much less computer time and much more sewing time. I am seeing the results, I did (almost) finish several tops and quilts. So I will keep going and hope to be able to clear some boxes and show you some more finishes very soon! And of course I will show you some things just now too!
Allereerst het quiltje dat ik maakte voor het baby'tje van de buren. Toen ik dit maakte wisten ze nog niet wat ze zouden krijgen, het is een jongetje geworden. We hopen hem snel te gaan bewonderen en deze quilt te geven.
De inspiratie voor dit quiltje haalde ik uit een boek van Sarah Fielke "Quilting from little things...". Aan de achterkant een heerlijk zachte Minky en doorgequilt met rechte lijnen. Ik heb de afstand afgewisseld en niets afgetekend. Voor het quilten gebruikte ik een prachtige geel gemêleerd garen. Totaal meet het quiltje ongeveer 75x100 cm.
Het label heb ik gemaakt door mijn logo in spiegelbeeld op speciaal transfer papier te printen en daarna op de stof te strijken. Het ziet er nu super uit, het werkt prima, maar hoe lang het gaat houden weet ik niet, dus daarom nog maar een merkje er op genaaid ook.
First of all this little quilt I made for the baby of our neighbours. When I made it they didn't know what is was going to be, now I know they got a son! We hope to admire him soon and give them the quilt.
The inspiration for this quilt was from Sarah Fielke's book "Quilting from little things...". On the back (again) a lovely soft Minky. I quilted it with straight lines. I did alternate the distance between the lines and didn't draw even one line. I used a yellow variegated thread and I love the result. It measures about 30x40 inches.
I made the label by printing the mirror image of my logo on transfer paper and ironing it on the quilt. It works magic, but I don't have a clue how long it will stay put, so I sewed on of my special labels on it too.

Lori werd 50 en kreeg van al haar quilt vriendinnen een blok voor een quilt. Ik vroeg of ik ook mijn bijdrage mocht leveren en ze reageerde per omgaande dat ze dat geweldig zou vinden, dus dit blok is nu onderweg naar Amerika. Een van mijn favoriete blokken en in een paar van mijn favoriete stofjes.
Lori had her 50th birthday. Lots of her friends make her a block for her jubilee quilt. I asked if I could join and she said she would love me to. So it is on its way to the USA right now. One of my favourite blocks and some of my favourite colours/fabrics...
Een paar weken geleden vierde Esther haar 15e verjaardag. Mijn vriendin (sinds VWO-2!) kwam om met de meiden een foto shoot te doen. Het was die zaterdag schitterend weer en het zijn ongelooflijk prachtige foto's geworden. Ik wil deze meiden niet zomaar allemaal op mijn weblog zetten, maar het is me gelukt toch een aantal leuke impressie foto's te vinden. Kijk je mee?
A few weeks ago Esther had her 15th birthday. My friends since secondary school came to make a photo shoot. It was a beautiful Saturday and the pictures turned out incredibly beautiful. Wie o wie kan mij advies geven? Deze quilt, Home Coming Lane van Gail Pan, ga ik maken in iets gewijzigde vorm, ik ga alle huisjes naast elkaar zetten. Ik wil graag machinaal appliceren met onzichtbaar garen, maar dat is natuurlijk nylon garen. Wat doe je dan in het spoeltje? Ik heb nu ook nylon garen gebruikt, dat ging best goed... maar... nu kan ik natuurlijk mijn blokken niet meer strijken. Wat zou jij doen?
Who can give me some advise? I am going to make this quilt, Home Coming Lane from Gail Pan, but slightly changed. I will put all houses in one row! I want to machine appliqué with invisible thread, which of course is a nylon thread. What do you use on the bobbin? I did use the same nylon thread and it sewed fine. But, I just realised it is going to be hard to iron these blocks... What would you do?
